The database allows to select sites on the basis of a number of criteria, that is a single criterium or a combination of several criteria. Any combination of criteria for all types of sites and attestations is possible.
The map can be manipulated in various ways. Top right is a layer symbol. It is best to tick the research area box to show the area for which the data are most valid. Outside the area data have been collected very uneven. You can also chose various background layers including ‘Simplified landscape’ created by Roeland Emaus.
To the left the U/C-box allows to group sites near to one another in order to improve readability of the map.
The List-box at the bottom of the row calls up the list of sites when clicked.
The Filter-box calls up a list of sites and attestations. Tick the boxes you want to see or not to see. If you select one type of site all the sites of that type appear on the map after clicking Filter bottom right.
Ticking the plus-sign opens a list with criteria you can define. For cemeteries this is the qualification of the cemetery, the dates of the cemetery, the years of discovery, the number of various types of graves, and elements of the cultural landscape to which cemeteries are related. You can use any of those criteria, for instance you want to know all ‘certain’ cemeteries larger than ‘500’ graves discovered between ‘1800’ and ‘1850’.
Each time you defined criteria tick the Filter box below right and the map will adjust. Don’t forget to clear criteria if you create a new set of criteria.
